Biku started its life as an antique shop. It was packed to the rafters
with antiques of all descriptions, many of which are for sale at Biku.
In a corner an old Chinese monk statue stood. Occasionally people
would
come to the shop (drawn by an unseen force) bringing fruit or cakes
as an
offering to the statue. Some people said they are able to communicate
with
him.
When we took over the building we immediately were drawn to his presence. After hearing the stories about him, we decided to name the restaurant after him. The word for Chinese monk in Indonesian is “Biksu” or “Biku.”
Each day we make him a special pot of tea, give him cakes, flowers and incense.
Please feel free to say hello to him when you come to visit us here at Biku. He smiles on us all!
